Obama the Geek
By admin on Jan 21, 2009 in Uncategorized
Seeing as it’s inauguration day I thought I’d post on the new US President and celebrate the geek within.
Once he was elected, he was forced to give up the Blackberry to which he was much attached for security reasons: “I’m still clinging to my Blackberry. They’re going to pry it out of my hands”.
Apparently President Obama is also a Mac user, a Pac-Man fan, collected Spider-Man and Conan the Barbarian comics as a kid and is a Star Trek fan (and once flashed the ‘Live Long and Prosper’ sign to Leonard Nimoy).
He also has a White House blog and will use YouTube for his weekly address to the nation. His has put a lot of effort seemingly into defining policies regarding technology, infrastructure, education and science.
Above is President Obama’s official portrait, the first official president’s portrait to be taken with a digital camera.
Will we see Obama on Twitter yet? Probably not, but seeing a fellow ‘geek’ inaugurated today did make me smile.
[Update: Doh! Thanks to @derryo who pointed out Obama's twitter page. ]

Yeah, I can imagine him changing his facebook status every few mins.
Barack hates his PA. She’s a cow.
